I was actually tempted to whip the whole engine out anyway for ease and to clean it up better. However if that had happened I think I'd have thrown an LS motor in its place instead!!  )

Thanks for all your replies. Engine is running great just a shame about the gearbox. No reverse and the transfailsafe message on the dash. Reverse only works when message is displayed. Have already purchased replacement and in the process of swapping. Hopefully get to use it sometime soon.

Any update on your  vehicle & issues ?
