Battery kill switch

So let me get this straight your saying cut the plug on the ctek side and extend that wire? Only downside I see is that I would no longer be able to use the ctek on another car without taking out the wiring, unless I get another plug and the new connection I make should be an easy disconnect. BTW - any cable type recommendation?
[/quote]
yes, I wouldn't cut the original CTEK wire, I'd buy a CTEK extension wire and cut that to extend if that's not long enough. that way the CTEK along with plug is untouched. also u have the plugs on either side of the extension wire.. and the wire type.. hmm.. any 12V 10A sort of wire maybe from Maplin? (better run weren't they under Administration..?.. or amazon)
ok here goes:
CTEK extension cable
extension wire if the CTEK extension is not long enough
also hedgehog - I know the is a popular theory but I find it hard to believe, cos the entire fan module incl the hedgehog gets powered down when the car goes to sleep. so that can't drain the battery whilst parked?

God damn, your like the x5drivers replacement Sanj. Loving this idea now just need to get Sanj round to install
Query the Indian in me wants to know how much power am I using keeping this thing on 24x7? Although this would be so ultra convenient that I'd probably plug in every 2 weeks or day before required etc.
Now I need to figure out how to get that plug outside my house would be nice not to have to drill a hole, good news is I am getting a new garage door fitted in the next few weeks so might be able to work with them to feed the cable out.

Re: Battery kill switch
CTEK chargers have an in line connector which you can pull apart and fit different ends to. You can also buy 2.5m extensions.
Have a look on Amazon for ‘CTEK Comfort’ options. You could probably connect a couple together and then keep the charger under cover too.

Re: Battery kill switch
My car is parked a little further, guessing I will be needing around 15m of extension, so buying 1 comfort extension and some 2 core seems so better option.
Query I have some : core armour cable left from previous project, can I use this? Assuming even though it's 12v running tge cable user should not matter.
The cable I have: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/S ... lash2.html

Re: Battery kill switch
It will be fine. It’s the current rating that matters at this voltage and you won’t be putting enough through it to worry. Most chargers run at 10A or less and that cable is rated at 27A.
Resistance is the most likely challenge you need to overcome on a 15m run. The charger may struggle if you have a low rated one. A 10A conditioner charger should be OK, but worth checking with a 5A version to make sure it reads the battery voltage correctly. I would not want to go much more than 15m without increasing the wire core diameter.

If it helps I'll be using CTEK MXS 5.0

Re: Battery kill switch
Damn smoke alarm went mental at crazy AM in the morning, so had lots of thinking time.
If extending the ctek after the block may be an issue, why not just extend the wire before the ctek on the normal power cord as thats guaranteed to work and I only need cable and connectors?
FYI - Disconnecting the Sat Nav DVD, pulling fuses 72,73,75 maybe 74 too seems to have made no difference, after a full charge on CTEK, 24 hours later I tried to start which it did but was a real weak turnover, so the above did nothing.
Another point old post on this but I'm using Bosch S5 which just past its 5th year now, and I have had to replace this 3 times in the 5 years due to faulty cells, going on form I would assume the current battery is probably knocked some cells out too by now.
Wondering if buying a new battery not Bosch for sure might help at all, I see Duracell also had 5 year, what do you think? In fact thinking to go for one of the AGM ones, seems to fit my profile of use better.

Re: Battery kill switch
Kinda off topic but on the thought of changing battery and leaving my bad luck with Bosch S5's.
I started thinking AGM battery Duracell AGM about £180 5 year warranty, then I came across this Halfords lifetime battery non AGM
http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs- ... ar-battery
Giving lifetime they got to have some hell of confidence surely? Confused again.

Wow, lifetime eh, just seen my next battery. Halfords never seem to quibble if you take stuff back.

I had lifetime warranty on a battery in my Golf, but after 3 replacements in 10 years they refused. I think there is a limit to lifetime in the small print.

Still 10 years with just the inconvenience of changing it for free.

Re: Battery kill switch
I'd be happy to get 5 years if I could count on the car start with infrequent usage. Liking the lifetime, but I am thinking if AGM is better technology for holding charge, and handles low discharge and top-ups battery, then that may be a better route. You folks aren't helping me decide.
Anyone have an AGM battery? If yes would you say its any better then a good quality battery (FYI - I thought Bosch s5 was )

Well, the risk of 230v cables, CTEK outside, exposed to the elements..
