If it’s on 24/7 think about replacing the memory card every 3-4 months, and reformatting it monthly so errors get picked up. Use a good quality one too - better ‘in service’ life and usually more reliable technology.
A lot of tracker systems use the same battery technique so it ought to be fine for a dash cam too

I’ve set it to automatically reformat when full, but have ordered a 128gb card anyway.

Ha Ha, my favourite footage is when the car goes in for servicing. Plug it in to the battery pack before I drop it off and viola, no startup sounds. Most people don't see it as tucked up behind the rear view mirror.

I got a call from my dealer last time I dropped the car off....................... Due to data protection we will need to unplug your dash cam, we cant have it recording the technicians in the workshop.

When my car was dropped off after being at the dealers last week, my dashcam had been unplugged as well.
Makes you wonder what they are trying to hide?

The dealer must have a MOT viewing area as well, so you can "personally" see what they are doing. Not sure what the legalities are of unplugging a security device.

Hi Rich,
Like the sound of this for security, did the installer just come to you, where did he take the suply from? 24/7 recoding is the way forward has it a IR mode for night driving etc?

I got it fitted at the shop. They ran the wire behind the headlining, and down the doorsill, then into the boot (I think). Other than a tiny amount of exposed cable on one of the trim joins, you’d never know it was there.
I assume it has an IR mode, as night recording is crystal clear too.
The only issue I’ve had is when the weather is really cold at night, I get a battery error on the dash in the morning, as the dashcam will run off the car battery until it drops to a certain level, then the Blackvue battery pack kicks in. It never does that when the temps are warmer, so my local dealer ran diagnostics on the car battery, which has no faults.
