yes agreed but what Im asking , is not the payback period but that when compared with diesel on a like for like mileage basis, am I right in saying that at 17mpg at circa 60p a litre (log) that is in effect the same as 34mpg at £1.20 litre(diesel) or have I got my maths wrong? i.e. if both those cars spent a hundred quid on fuel then they would cover roughly the same distance as ne gets half the consumption for half the price per litre?

I asked silverbackmike on here when he had his done at Avon Autogas and he said it was an 80L tank and that he got the equivalent of 35mpg generally so your maths looks ok to me.
Incidentally my mum used Avon Autogas in Bristol for her motorhome underslung LPG tank and they did a nice neat job, silverbackmike was impressed with them as well and they were also recommended by Vanbitz, so I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ll be going. You do hear some horror stories about rubbish untidy installs so do a bit of research and get some recommends before you part with your money.

Re: 2003 X5 4.6 petrol
I had lpg fitted in 2006, to my 2002 4.4 at 42,000, when bought as an AUC car.
Now on 95000. Well pleased am getting equiv of 33-35 mpg. the performance drop is negligable and hardly noticed.
I had the largest tank fitted - Stako 95 litre- fitted in place of the spare tyre.( all wheels fitted with tyregoo and have had no punctures.)
Well pleased with conversion.

Re: 2003 X5 4.6 petrol
I would say that although my OBC tells me I'm getting 17mpg realistically I would say 15mpg on gas and the 17 figure comes from the fact that it starts and runs on petrol till it reaches a set temperature, which isn't long or far. Still 30mpg on the gas is still a good saving over petrol. I have an 85 ltr tank and even when empty won't take more than 68 ltrs. I normally reset trip on fill up and look to fill up at 200 miles. There are good apps for LPG stations. I can run up to Carlisle or over to NI via the republic and never use petrol. As for sleepyfolk's comment about neat jobs I would totally agree, I've had a couple of fitters comment about what a neat job mine is. You think, aren't they all, but now that I've seen a few others I realise that it really is neat and tidy, so if getting it fitted do your research.

Thanks, and do you have a spare (tyre, not tank!)?

No, I carry a puncture repair kit, one of those that you push the repair material through if you have a nail or such like type puncture and a can of that blow your tyre up if you can't see where or what's causing the tyre to go soft. Had great success with that stuff some years ago on another car. Of course if you get a blow out your pretty much in the hands of the AA. Often thought before a long journey to throw a spare wheel in the boot but never have.

My 4.4 is returning 19 / 20 with 30 possible on a long run.
Its going in for a prinz LPG conversion February. £1500 is an excellent price against my £2500. I love the noise of a V8 it is intoxicating.
