@davyk31 - do you happen to know if the protective film you can get is a viable alternative to mud guards to remedy the chipping problem? That's the solution I've been looking at, although I know you'd still get all the muck thrown up onto the car ...

I don't think the mudflaps will completely stop the chipping as even with them the dirt still is worse on the rear arches. I imagine they would help stop chipping along the front of the sills and the doors etc.

Do the mudflaps fit onto the SE models without requiring any modifications?

Davy - car looks great, thanks for the photos.

Avtar, they definitely fit the SE (I have seen several cars), I'm sure they can be painted (might need to smoothed as I think its grainy plastic. Have your local bodyshop paint and install them.

I saw another X5 with M sport with mudflaps are it looked great.

Very tempting, but got a quote from BMW at the weekend, just the mud flaps were £185.09....

I spotted this on my travels around the net looking into the chipping issue, which I thought may be interesting to anyone looking at mud flaps. Anyway, here they are, M specific mud flaps. I'm not sure if they're for the X5M or MSport (if there's a difference). I also don't know if they're available in this country, but presumably if not they could easily be mail purchased from the states.

MSport with black mudflaps doesn't look good :poke: :fuelfire:

these guys claim they fit running boards to ALL x5 models - this might be more aesthetic and cheaper solution

Don't know if you looked at the link, but the M mud flaps are designed to be sprayed body colour and are more sympathetic to the M styling.

Looks like I will have to return them, the rear guards to not sit correctly due to the aero pack.
