I will have a look at doing it properly but good to know I may be ok MOT time if I haven't finished it.

MOT only says they have to work if fitted, and they 'may' be fitted.

Vehicle Construction & Use regs say mandatory.  Only enforced by DVSA/Police which could get you a defect notice.
