AC fan (nearest front) is primarily to cool the condenser and should run if AC is on. It should kick in if the engine temperature gets to high and beyond the capability of the viscous fan. Although that would have to be a very hot day in traffic queues or a faulty viscous fan. (in my experience) I think the temperature sensor is in the coolant pump/thermostat housing

Ok, so it would appear that this has been two separate problems as the aux/engine fan now does not come on all the time and only comes n when the a/c button is pushed. the problem was resolved when the coolant level was checked and found to be low so its topped up now and fan doesn't kick in, unless, as I say the a/c button is pushed

However, the a/c is still not cold. It was little low (it was degassed in the last 12 months) so they topped it up but still not cold. apparently may be a pressure sensor switch as the compressor has been checked and found to be ok. So still none the wiser on the a/c at this stage

Absolutely. The aircon must be run in winter to stop the seals drying out which is why I was determined to get it fixed as it hasnt been run in several weeks

Air on is invaluable in winter as it dries the air and steamed up windscreen.
