Bought an E39, need a good forum. Petrol cap question

Thanks for your advice above. I landed a sweet 530i with sport suspension and manual gearbox. She's high mileage but in great condition. Even the sway bar bushes had been replaced by the previous manic owner. I slipped in some EBC Red Stuff pads, fixed an oil leak, and she's ready to roll.
Which is the best forum out there for E39s?
Petrol cap question:
I noticed that my petrol cap rubber was largely perished. I ordered this replacement on Amazon.de https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B006DH ... em_1p_0_ti
Comparing the two, the new one has no apparent vent mechanism, whilst the old one does. However, this thread http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showth ... ?p=6329105 and others suggest that no venting is desirable at the cap itself. Instead, venting is done by the evap/purge solenoid. On M62s, it's under the bonnet. On M54s I suppose it's also there.
So I suspect that my new cap is good. But perhaps the cap I took off was in fact not correct for the car. In 14 years of use, it may have been changed.
