Hi, it seems a good time for me to chime in. I had same issues as you, nav screen dying / freezing and down to the front passenger door speaker only..
I have litterally just come in from installing a Dynavin N6 and if it helps
1-Yes there is a very long pain in the arse extension to run from the boot to behind the dash. You unplug the connection from the BM54 next to the battery and plug and adapter into that and the extension loom into that. Tis effectively bypasses all the usual gubbins and connects the head unit to the speakers etc.
2 - I ran mine through a hole under the back seat where the battery pos lead runs into the car... from there down the passenger side of the rear seat... under the plastic trim on the floor by passenger door... remove front passenger seat (easier than it sounds) remove B pillar lower plastic and passenger door floor trim. From there under passenger front seat over the air duct.. along the side of the centre console (carpet clips off with a bit of a tug) and up to the back of the dash. I ran this way as there is ALOT more space behind the dash on the passenger side that the driver side.
3-As for the Dynavin, given the price Im not super impressed. All my speakers are back up and working, but the OBC info screen doesn't work yet, and the TV no longer works. The BT streaming and radio are great but there are cheaper ways to get just that. BUT like I said I have literally just installed the b**ta*d maybe Ill work out if i did something wrong in the next few weeks (in all honesty theres not a lot to go wrong...).
Hope this helps, if you have q's just shout.

Hi Nick,
thanks for the information. From what I've read, your not going to get your MPG etc working, sorry to inform you! Was your fitting kit around £125?
Also, anyone recommend OEM looking fascia adaptors, only ones I can find say they're for E46?
Spent the day detailing the exterior of the car and my arms feel like they're going to drop off!

Bump, anyone able to recommend a fascia? Or does the E46 one fit? (That looks OEM)

I've been looking at these and tbh i've not seen anything that even looks close to OE
autoleads are usually good but even they dont look great ....
i'm gonna end up changing the head unit for an enron/dynavin type thing when my bank balance recovers

I have had a Dynavin fitted for some time now, pretty impressed I must say, also have the TV module plugged in and get good reception in most places, just about to fit the DAB module this weekend, if the lead turns up? The bluetooth is good, streams music from phone, if you plug the phone into the unit then you get album art plus obviously charge your phone (I have i phone 6)My OBC still reads what MPG I'm getting. My vehicle has DSP and that is fully integrated with it, ie AMP, bass box in rear r/h side corner. Steering wheel works including voice activated calls. I took a considerable amount of time and moved the leads from the head unit (blue and white plugs on the ends) to the back of the car where the CD player/SATNAV is/was and remodeled the metal bracket to mount the original head unit in there which allows me full control of the OBC. ie reset time/fuel consumption/LTRS or MPG/access to DSP amp to fine tune the sound/plus all the other bits you would normally get. You have to balance whether all this work is worth it bearing in mind how much you would get for a working original head unit.
Of course the Dynavin is expensive £599 but it is as good quality as original, satnav is excellent, I had an Erishin(think spelling is wrong)with 2 year warranty, CD broke after 6 months and probably played 3 CDs the replacement parts were apparently free but postage was $45 and you had to strip and fit it yourself.
Hope some of this is helpful to someone

Hi Henry, thanks for the info, particularly the OBC stuff as mine is still not working (am waiting on the vendor to email me back -- I suspect the CANBUS box in mine is not working properly as I also don't have voice activated calls or siri from the steering wheel).
Also I didn't consider re routing the nav to the boot (I assume where the CD changer used to be). Thats a pretty good idea for reseting the mpg etc. One thing, did you use the stock TV receiver or did you get the Dynavin version?
Adam - the fitting kit was sig cheaper than that - it was around £50 for the boot-to-dash loom. The dynavin comes with a fitting bracket already.

Hi, my 02 original system didn't have/ hadn't been upgraded to digital TV so I bought the Dynavin module (not sure that even if your original system had digital it would work with the Dynavin) The Dynavin module is plug and play, channels can be changed on the steering wheel. It has 2 aerials which I didn't want to mount on the windscreen so mounted them on the black grills on the bonnet, a few small cuts in those grills and the aerials sort of sink into the grills and are virtually invisible. The can bus box mounted/plugged in in the boot area should, when ign is on have a red light visible to show it has power. I also have a reverse camera fitted which works well, although a complete pain in the ass to fit. My son fitted a bluetooth one which works great for virtually no hassle in comparison. You do know that you can have the radio channel logo's on the screen but only for the channels that you listen to on a regular basis
Just read your post again. Yes I have the original head unit where the CD changer is. In fact it took me nearly as long to fit it in there and look neat as it did to fit all the other stuff.
Any questions, just ask, if I know I'll tell you, if I don't it'll bug me.

Cheers Henry - The boot mounted nav screen looks great. Im assuming tracking and pulling out the loom for the nav was horrific? Still I may have a go though... who needs skin on their knuckles anyway! Also I considered a reversing camera as I figured that would be easier to put in at the same time as the Dynavin loom. Was your sons one from online auction?
Im waiting for a new canbus as my Dynavin has multiple issues all related to the it - most annoying is it turns off after 5 mins ... which got quite annoying on a recent 5hr round trip.

Hi Nick, my son's reverse cam fits in one of the number plate light slots, it's a good picture but personally I'm not keen cos it gives of such a different spread of light to the other one. Picky I know. I fitted one in the cover where the tow bar goes (obviously no towbar)a lot easier to get the wires through into the boot, I would highly recommend running an RCA cable through if you have the carpet up even if you don't use it. Yes it was a real pain taking those leads to the back, but the end result makes it seem worth it and anyway the skin grows back in no time.
BTW his was from online auction.

Does anyone know if E39 Fascias will fit E53's? The aftermarket fascias look much more OE for E39's than E53 options!

Evening yet again chaps.
Got the radio kit and finally got round to running the wiring through yesterday.
I've tested the aftermarket radio to make sure the loom was ok and there is a high pitch noise from the speakers as soon as the head unit comes on, which raises pitch with the engine revs as they raise.
Any ideas? I presume an earth but any common issues, why would it only just start playing up with the aftermarket unit?
Cheers

A whine that changes with engine rpm means you need a suppressor on the alternator. May not have been fitted on pol spec?
