I know zip about wiring, hence having a pro fit it.
Automatics, Pffft Easy as pie to drive, been driving them for thr last 15+ years, but the X5 is in a class of its own!
An Absolute dream to drive.

hi try indespenssion they fit the towbars to dealer cars in Cumbria but they are a national chain so prices are very competative . I have a twin socket towbar on a 2004 E53 X5 and just have an adaptor plug bought from a caravan dealer for £25 changes the twin socket feed to 13 pin for the caravan via a lead .
Maybe cheapest option if you already have the towbar fitted can post a picture later once I find it , other option is an independant auto electrician .
I think the costs are high from BMW as the want to upgrade the fan on most after purchase BMWs as we had a factory fit one on our BMW X1 at £750 but they knocked 20% off that price when purchased car . I got the Westfalia one fitted to mine was about £350 all in but 10 years ago .

i got the removable tow bar from p f jones and the original bmw electric kit (with fridge circuit already spliced in)....plug and play with just a battery and earth connection for the fridge...tow bar is fairly straightforward as well with patience, took me about 5 hours all in and about £280.....
