Mine are horrid at this point...

'Horrid' in what sense? If it's only that they don't work well, buy a cheap set of aero blades like I did - they're brilliant. Link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200836628209? ... EBIDX%3AIT - I know you can get them even cheaper, but I like this firm because they deliver quickly and I know their blades work well.

If on the other hand the metal wiper arms are oxidised, just polish them up and they look fine.

Be very careful with Acetone, it is an extremely good solvent of a lot of plastics and artificial rubbers!  Have you seen what it does to nails (as in girlies ones)?
[/quote]

I was derelict in not putting a big Yank Lawyer Warning note beside my suggestion. Yes, acetone dissolves substances such as paint and plastics. Be careful where you spill it! Don't get it on the paint!  I taped on cardboard and plastic sheets to protect the paint when I freed up the rear wiper.

OTOH, it breaks loose rusty bits faster than any product you can buy. Don't take my word for it.

There is a hinged cap where it is attached to the car.

Lift that and you will see a nut.

Undo the nut and remove.

When fitting new one, bend until in position you would have it when cleaning screen so that it slides of the spindle evenly.

Want me to take a couple of photos tomorrow showing exactly how to do it?
