I actually just came on the site to look for info on the timing chain and saw this post.
My question was are you meant to change them? I was under the impression that the X5 is meant to be for the life of the vehicle due to them being metal? or have I made that up?
I'm also with you regards to fix or scrap it when I get a bill.. mine is a 2001 v8 with 112k on the clock and recently was offered £2,500 as a trade in and I just think.. I've already come close to paying that in various bills over the years so I might as well keep it.
I love the car but sometimes feel a bit trapped by repairs when they occur as you can never really sell the car when its knackered and I don't want to fix it for someone else to use etc.
