cameronrobyn, I'm interested in how you're getting on with your search as I'm looking at getting an X5M.

I did test drive one a couple of weeks ago and didn't find any issues with the firmness of the ride (but I haven't driven an 40D for comparison!).

I test drove a x5M at a local dealer in Essex.  I then went and and drove a 40d f15 at coopers ipswich today.  I'm not articulate enough to describe both in any great detail.  I kind of sold myself on the x5m, and was slightly disappointed at the yellow interior seats. I didn't drive it far and didn't put it in MAD mode.  I'm currently driving the e53 and my god the drive is amazingly different.  Solid and very comfortable, I shouldn't be surprised but when you don't know what to expect.....I absolutely loved the x5m.

F15, 60k worth of car and took it on a familiar route.  Beautiful interior but I don't go in for gimmicks as I call them. I.e. Pan roof, lane thingy and all the other stuff they put on demonstrators.  The M had head up display which I thought was pretty cool.  Had a Peugeot hire car in Portugal that had this so quite liked the idea.  F15 was as expected extremely comfortable but I didn't find it any comfortable than the M.  I thought the handling on the M was better than the F.  Thought the F steering was very light to the point where I didn't feel in control at 75 on a wide back road ( straight with a high camber) so maybe the type of road influenced that.  On the A14 doing 75 ish registered approx 46 mpg, pretty cool seen as I get 26 in my e53!  Coopers salesman did his bit to put me off the M, can I afford £100 a week on fuel.  I do approx 150 miles a week........would it really cost me that much?  I'll do my homework before I comment about that.  So the upshot is I want the M. Felt like I could drive it without acting like a hooligan!  People asking me do I need 550 bhp, it's more than that just about Bhp (isn't it?  :)) I'm sure you can relate, I'm 48 so it's not a boy racer thing.  It's a thing of beauty!

Just get the m or you will forever regret it, you wont use £100 to do 150 miles

@cameronrobyn
if it was the blue one, the white(ish) seats were a deal breaker for me too  :puke:
I thought i could live with them from the photos, but not in 'the flesh'! That and the paint work was a bit tatty. For strong money I would expect it to be blemish-free.

Coincidentally, I also took an F15 for an extended test drive as my brother bought a brand new X3 from Cotswolds BMW. While I'm not in the market for a brand new X5, I *really* didn't like the steering, far too light, it was like chasing the last bit of jelly round the bottom of the bowl  :drive: that and the mirrors were too small!

Yes Waka it was that one.  They were a bit ropy I've asked them to price my car up and give me the figures.  My take on the seats, probably because I'm not used to them and think they would eventually grow on me.  Maybe a good scrub up would make the difference.  It was solid though, beautiful to drive. Wonder if you could dye the seats?  Big job!

F15.....lot of money.  Not interested.  Should drive the e70 40d next for comparison.

It's not just the seats, it's the rest of the interior trim too.

He gave me what seemed to be fairly generous trade-in offer on my X5 (although he's added £1000 to the price the local Bentley dealer had it up for before Christmas! But we still weren't quite close enough to my cost to change and I dodn't love it enough to haggle!.

Still, could be worse, could have been an interior like this... :nono:

@jaynana ha ha the more I look at that picture the more it grows on me! I might have to go and have a look at that one.

@cameronrobyn yes I've seen the advert. That's been for sale for a *very* long time. I wonder what's wrong with it?!

Get the M. Saddle brown is a awesome colour interior. Same as what I have. I have black trim though, so contrasts well with Space Grey exterior.

Hi

I'm not sure if this helps or confuses things.

I was at elms in Bedford at weekend looking at X5 diesels and they have an X5m in white nice spec black interior, wheels are corroded a bit and a couple of parking dents and chips on o/s door trims but panels in nice overall on pistinheads not sure I white is an option, hug thought I'd mention it
