So I rang around a few more places
My general Indy said no as didn't have the software to code
I rang up dick lovett bristol £290ish
I rang Hereford BMW £290ish and auto discounted to £270ish which lady said its AGM one
BMW specialist £190 non AGM as mine isn't a stop start
Another specialist estimates £170 for battery , £30ish to for and £40 ish to code
Local BMW Indy £257 "a genuine agm battery bmw have superseded the standard battery to a agm on your vehicle"
So I might go back to original BMW Indy who quoted about £200 with AGM
So if he an confirm maybe book in there?
Although still confused about AGM actual requirement, as there seems to be some drawbacks

Battery recommendation for 3.0sd 7 seater?
Re: Battery recommendation for 3.0sd 7 seater?
AGM batteries are better for high current draw cars. These are high current draw cars, hence being fitted with such. The stop/start is a complete red herring. Short journeys, high current draw and high starting currents are all important in the battery choice. The drawback - if you can call it that - is you must not abuse the battery by letting it go flat too often. Wet/flooded cell batteries didn't like it either and would crud up.
What type of battery is fitted? If it's AGM then you replace like for like. Similarly if it's a Calcium you do the same. What it won't be is a wet/flooded cell battery. The charging system will be set up for that type. You can use the Carly app to code it yourself.
BMW have been fitting AGM as standard for years across a range of models. They don't do it because it looks nice, but because the systems need whichever type is fitted from new.

Looks like BMW by default go for AGM now even if having standard as quoted by a dealer and an independent who uses genuine items
