As others have all points covered I'll just say a bit about the paint.
BMW paint is very hard, and swirls/scratches are normally caused by the washing and drying technique.
Have a look on the Polished Bliss website for tutorials on how to wash and dry.
Essentially though, use two buckets; one for wash and one to rinse your mitt.
Never use a sponge, a lambswool or noodle mitt is key.
Dry in straight lines with a waffle weave towel.
Before all this however you'll need to remove the swirls by claying the car and then mopping them out. The PB website will show you how to do this.
