I know this is spot on but it is always funny when people say to me that our 640d is a 4 Litre engine! its bad enough the fact its an oil burner and if it was a four litre it might actually make up for the horrible noise it makes at idle and part throttle! :'(

If you can, go for the 2010 model year onwards 30d or 40d. They have the 8-speed transmission not fitted to the earlier 30d and 35d. It makes a very sublime way to drive as the acceleration is pretty much seamless from standstill to "Good Afternoon Officer, is there a problem?".
The later versions are also less to tax and marginally more economical, and have better electronic toys on the iDrive system inc Bluetooth music streaming support, DAB, bigger screen, hard drive based Nav, and on board music storage up to 11GB (I think - never used mine for that).
The turbos in the 35d are of the same size running in parallel I believe whereas the 40d/50d uses dissimilar sizes in sequence under computer control.

Did VW not do a five litre V10 diesel Toureg at one point? Then there's that six litre V12 diesel Q7 that Audi used to do. Bonkers :-[

The future to be fair should be bright but in terms of cars this just isn't the case and as you rightly state Richard because of emissions and optimum fuel economy targets...the petrolhead is certainly a dying breed sadly nowadays.
Its good to look back though to the times when it didn't matter and everyone could enjoy a lovely high capacity/high cylinder N/A petrol engine.
I think I need to move to America or Dubai!!

I personally have never been keen on black wheels on any car but many love black wheels, sometimes BMW take photos before they prep the cars and I have purchased six AUC cars over the years and all the wheels were mint because they usually refurb them if they need it.

It's not guaranteed though. Some Dealers will try and sell cars in frankly shocking states (and still try for top prices) as is evidenced by occasional threads on the Forum.

I think I have been lucky and I agree and I remember looking at a X5 that was local to me that a guy on here was purchasing and he lived a long way from the dealer and I told him to mention the alloys because they weren't in brilliant condition.
