Can you remember what the springs were? Just doing my research on discs, pads and springs.

Looked at Brembo (V expensive - £360 ish a set), Pagid (A little less £280 ish modest reviews), Mintex (same as pagid but mainly poor reviews) and the wild card.... Meyle (no bad reviews but not many reviews, and v cheap £200 a set).
I think i am going for the Meyle Set. nearly half the cost of any other set up and they have some good feedback on other bimmer sites. Will give a full review for others to benefit from..

Struggling a little with the springs as many say they are not suitable for sports models.

Ok... Please can anybody help with this.
Found the BMW part number for these M Sport variant springs after speaking to my local dealer. It's 33533413184. From bmw they are £118.34 + VAT each.... Seems mad when you can buy the SE versions using OEM parts for £80 a pair inc vat. Do I even have to use M Sport springs?

Do we know who makes them so I can get their nonBMW branded ones instead?

Might be bucking the trend a little here but.... But for all M Sport X owners, a company called Suplex make springs for our cars.

All the other brands make springs for vehicles 'without M Technics' and there's even a difference for Auto and Manual X's. They have an office in Sheffield and the friendly people will help get the right springs for you. They are also 2/3rds cheaper.

They may be total cack but I am happy to take one for the team. A few Z4 owners swear by them. PM me if you need details.

I'll keep you informed of installation etc.

I think I broke my handbrake

So.... Put my new handbrake shoes on, discs and pads! Here's how it all went.

Here are the Pagids from ECP and the fitting kit from local motorfactors (highly recommended for £12)
Image

Before you have a mental breakdown trying to find every allen key set you have, only to realise there's no such thing as a 7mm allen key in standard sets... Buy this. Few squid from Halfrauds. Required for removing caliper.
Image

New pad sensors. Cheapies from eGay. Think £14 for both inc delivery
Image

Sparkly new Meyle Platinum Discs (PD) from APD. Hopefully they work as good as they look. £200ish for a set of 4
Image

Ferrodo Premium pads as recommended by APD to compliment the discs. £45ish for all 4 pairs.
.....apparently i have forgotten to take a picture of these. To give you a clue, they look like pads in Ferrodo boxes.....

This is what my current discs look like on the back. Bit rusty and corroded. Not a huge amount left on the faces. Pads had a lot left but seemingly doing little to actually stop the car.
Image

Inside of disc where handbrake shoes go. Lots of brake dust in here
Image

The offending shoes....
Image
Yep..... There's not a lot on there.
Image

Went on pretty quick. Take a photo before to remind you which bit goes where... And more importantly, which way round.
Image
Image

Here are the discs installed. Look good anyway. Sensor took a bit of force to get it into the pad but with a flat head screwdriver and hammer it eventually went in.
Image

That's all for now. Just waiting for the bedding in to finish and will report on their performance. Will need a brake fluid change too as it's a tid bit orange.

Oh, remember. If you get a pad sensor warning, you'll need to reset the pad sensor by turning the key to pre-ignition and leave for about 2 mins or until light goes out. Turn off take key out and put back in. Ta dah. All done.

Looks much better now dunnit......

When you do the fluid change and if using a pressure bleed system, keep the pressure below 20psi.  Whatever you do, do not let air into the system at the front end as you then need to cycle the ABS using the proper software tool.  Dealers use a vacuum system to 'pull' the fluid through.  Indy's who have cocked up the bleeding have had to replace the master cylinders and ABS Modulators.

I used an Ezi-Bleed with the spare wheel at 18psi and it worked just fine.  Much over 20psi can damage the system itself - presumably the ABS Modulator block - so beware.

Just a quick update on the discs. Had them in for about 2 weeks now and have bedded them in nicely. Getting even braking at all 4 corners and much sharper than before. Still a little spongey but that's my fault for not changing the brake fluid yet..... And it's really bad. V happy with the whole setup and would recommend them to anyone. I'll announce any further updates but doubt it will be necessary.
Brake Shoe adjustment and Suplex springs going in today. woohoo!

I think I broke my handbrake

Finally got the springs on. Wasn't as difficult as i first thought as long as you have  your jack from your boot and something long and heavy to squish the spring a little.
Here they are. Suplex Coil Springs - part number 06238 - £98 a pair inc delivery (Saving of £190 over BMW OEM)

You will need this - or something similar.
Image

Improvise.....
Image

Here's one I made earlier
Image

Effective as a super stiff lowering spring but not much else.
Image

Drove home earlier and they feel fantastic.

If you have any Q's, just PM me
