The easy way to check which version you have is to take the base out of the front left cup holder.  If there is no release port below it then it's 'the under the car, wind off a screw version' you have.

I also thought the tool was needed to release the parking brake, but that must be different from late MY2011 cars too.

out of interest how are e70s holding money so well 30k for a 5 year old, i know its an e53 but i payed 12k for my e53 3.0d le mans edition on a 55 plate in 2010 so does that not make it nearly the same car ie a high spec 5 year old x5?

The F15 X5 hasn't really moved the game on that much, it's the same weight, similar engines etc .. so I think that's helping with the residuals for the E70. I'm expecting the next gen (rumoured to be coming in after 5yrs and not 7 as previously) to be radically more efficient.

The F15 has start stop technology so lower VED and better 0-60mph. It will be the hybrid technology that can acheive 45-50mpg for an SUV that will lower the residuals for the E70 and kill of the E53.
