thank you all very helpful. I drove 320 miles this weekend and average 33.5mpg the ride down to the south west coast seemed unconfortable going doen but the ride back was ok in terms of ride quality. Maybe it is time to adapt but for the time being i have decided to do nothing until the tyres need replacing.
What i am unclear on is the debate of new RFT vs old RF technology - what tyres are of the new version. Dealer fitted Bridgestone Dueler HP sport to my rear axle 2 weeks ago so i assume this is the 'new technology' ? How do i check?
I like the idea of non RFTs with mobility kit

Didn't the original versions need special rims? Ours don't, you can fit RFT or non-RFT as you want. The ABS carries out the pressure monitoring via differential rotational speed checking.

I will have to change all four in the next month or so. I was adament on changing to non-RFT, but after having a rapid deflation on a French autoroute (on my non-RFT winter tyres) this winter and getting lucky that an exit was within a mile, I'm thinking again! I've also read that on the X5, the ride difference between RFT and non-RFT is smaller compared to other models. I have sports suspension deletion, so the ride has never been that bad either.
I have 20" and currently thinking either Conti SC5's RFT for £858 (camskill) or Michelin Latitude Diamaris non-RFT £708. If anyone has switched to either from the Bridgestone's i'd be interested to hear your feedback.

Tried to get the Conti's but the fitter couldn't get them for a decent price (he said).

I did some research using oponeo.co.uk (never used them but prices were competitive)
Fr 275/40/r20
Rr 315/35/r20
Non RF set of 4:
falken 453s £508
Dueler HP Sport £680
RF:
Conti 5s £858 (similar price to bridgestone dueler hp's)
19" all much cheaper....e.g RF conti5 £648
