have you tried nipping up the jump start terminal yes or no?

kjb1 yup unscrewed the jump start bolts cleaned and tightened em back up again, no joy same laboured start, ....gone for  a 4th battery check----

I read that the battery needs to be fully charged before a test/load test so removed it from car and all results are at battery terminals nto whilts in car
READ  13.83v straight after charge
READ  12.98V  (figure after I let it sit for 5hours, this removed 'surface' charge )
Went for testing with below device in video
after test
CCA displayed was 791 and opposed to the 830 printed on the battery but everyone assures me this is ok...as exceeds the OEM battery rating of 720amp for a e53 3.0D
After the load test it READ 12.89V

What i dont know is  if the device 2 of the places used could detect a voltage drop to a dangerous level on applying the test/load...ie during testing if it had fallen below 9.5v volts (and temps was 15.6 degrees then the battery is classed as bad, this volts drop is dependent on temps say at 4.4c then the minimum voltage would be 9.3 v or else bad battery etc )

So if the if this bosch tester is any good then my battery is ok and i can focus on somehting else..its straight forward bit of kit you  simply punch in the cca of the battery and other data, hit test and then it comes back with a cca rating....if the battery is bad it will tell ya

ahhhhh wot i cant get is a definitive answer of what the amp draw needs to be of the starter on starting!

Have you put a code reader on to check you are not getting fuel issues? does it get worse if its a warm start? ie car has been running and fully warmed up after journey, you knock it off, then start after 5 mins and turnover is longer?

Nope no code reader on it alas, nope not worse if its a warm start, I would say its a tad quicker not slower, as mentioned earlier I had the battery tested again (its ok) charging system too....gonna check tomorrow see if i can get to any of the nuts on the solenoid/starter from the top see if can tighten em ...

Jeez.......! at some point , am I going to have to buy a new battery or alternator for my X5 ? ....heres me thinking they were infallible 

well managed to nip up the nuts on the solenoid and jump points, turns out the starter is a desno-madie in italy-not sure they had the same issue with amp draw..../

The starter motor should draw 250-350amps at startup.

thanks Rob 250-300 amps eh? well IF used the amp clamp correctly my starter draws more than 400amps each start (stupid of me not to set it too the 1000a before tesing) , I am getting funny looks at the garages i go to when i mention i may have a starter problem, please check my amp draw!
