My Dealer wants obscene money for them!  More than £500 a set more than a local supplier does them for.

My dealer would fit tyres I supplied for £12 a corner.

Well said damian777  . 100% correct, RFT's are a money making racket - no spare - get a puncture - have to drive on - knackered tyre - invariably need to replace both tyres on the axle  >:(.

PPS  The  guy Peter T  who posted here, who got 64,000 K out of his tyres ( 40,000 miles ) he must work for Bridgestone  )  or drive at 30 mph everywhere in a strait line in Canada.

) No I don't work for Bridgestone but the key thing is I don't have the opportunity to push the car at all hard (in Canadian conditions).  My typical drive to work was 10km on pretty straight roads to a motorway then another 15km or so to the office, and the motorway speed limit in Ontario is 100 km/hr.  Hence tyres have an easy life!  That said the rears were badly worn when I changed them; exacerbated by the set up being wrong.  I could certainly feel they needed changing though it felt more like the fronts were less grippy to be honest.  I very much doubt they would have lasted so long in the UK.

Wheels are 19 inch but I'm in Austria right now so can't confirm the details/profile etc.  I can say for sure they were absolutely bog standard for the car when I took delivery.

I've done nearly 10,000 miles on my E53 which had almost new tyres 20 inch when I bought it, my tyres will need replacing in the next 2 thousand miles, they're near the 1.8 mm band, my tyres are Yokohamas, all of my tyres have worn eavenly and I don't drive my car as though it's a sports car so I thought that was normal, if some of you are getting 20 thousand miles I would imagine that's a hard compound and mine must be much softer, though Yokohamas are a more sporty tyre so perhaps that's not surprising, the level of grip is very good.

Yes 10,000 miles  on an X 5  is about correct, but  Yokohamas  are very soft compound. I had some on a 911 Carrera  years ago to try and keep the back end pointing  in a straight line , as the 911s  were a sod to handle  in the  early days. The tyres lasted  3- 4000 miles  but were like putty  when warm  with fantastic  grip  and they were the favorite on track days  if i remember  to get a good qualifying times when i spent time at  Oulton Park in the 1980s .    Couple of wheel spins or a long skid  and they flat spotted  as they were so soft!

10k on an E53 is well below what you should get if using the Diamaris that were fitted OEM.  Should be approaching or better than double that really.  Yoko's are soft I know, and the Pirelli  P-Zero we had on another car only lasted 9k!

Both of my sets last well over 20k and that included daily driving around Milton Keynes which has more roundabouts than are healthy for cars!!  :'(

As the rear Bridgestones are wearing i think i might change them for Michelin Diamaris NON run flat and buy a space saver to put in the underfloor storage. Will it matter if i have non run flat Michelins on the rear and run flat Bridgestones on the front ?
Also, the load rating of the Michelins is 106 on the rear not 110 like the Bridgestones. Will this matter ? The car doesn't have a lot of passengers and doesn't tow.

The tyre label on the driver's door B pillar will tell you if the 106 rating is OK for the size you want.

Not ideal having a mix of RFT and non RFT but as the axle sets match, it's fine.

I make too much use of the underfloor space in my X6 to put a spare in unfortunately...... :'(
