Mine is only the 30 as was my 12 plate e70 but the f15 does seem slightly quicker again, the 40 was not out when I got mine in early feb, we are getting around 30mpg constantly around town which is what we averaged with our f10 520 msport auto, getting around 38 - 40 odd on a run mixed a class & motorway you could easily get more on a run if you can sit at 70 I normally sit just below 80 & am happy with what I get.

30D and 40D are the same engine ---- 3 litre. The difference is the 40D is a twin turbo.

I know Richard , ive had both but as you will appreciate the 4 D drives completely different mid range and its up and down the gears a bit smoother than 3 D and a few revs quieter per mph, im sure.
I test drove a 2014 demonstrator M Sport 3 D last week with 250 ish HP , cant remember the exact figure but still felt slower mid range but only had a short test run. If i am to get another X 5 in Jan15 , it has to be a 4D, with 312 HP approx as i love the mid range performance , or i might still go for the new RR SD which has 288 BHP , up on the 2013 early production models. I am trying to get a test drive in a SD RR this weekend , should be interesting , but looking today at the Price with a few extras the RR is getting more and more expensive looking compared to a 4D X 15 demonstartor or nearly new . O:-)

Just read the Daily Mail article 4 days ago , in the last six months in London , stolen to Order : 290 odd Range Rovers with keyless go and 63 BMW X 5s, probably all in Red Square now ! Well i feel a bit better as the crime appears to be London based , as they are in a container and on the way to foreign parts so quick from the S East Docks.
It appears that even the Russian Mafia prefer the RR SD to the new X 5 !
So all 4 x 4s are still on criminals most wanted list. I might just get an Insurance quote for RR and X 5 this week to see where i stand , rather than get a shock at renewal after ive signed the cheque.

My X5 3.0 SE F15 at a steady 65- 70mph is good for over 40mpg according to the computer on a flat road, but when checked against fuel used to top up the tank and mileage covered, it usually works out at 35mpg.
the consumption drops considerably in heavy stop start London traffic. So far I cannot fault the car. I had a LR Discovery3 for 5 years, I was really good to ride in, but it was the most unreliable vehicle that I have ever owned. Problem was usually an electrical/computer glitch putting a light or a message on, not to speak of it needing new lower wishbones, compressor, ride height sensors, the list goes on, all in less than 25000 miles and only on good roads. If the new X5 is as good as my previous 2 X5's I will be delighted.
