Appreciate the feedback fellas.

Richard thank you.

Sounds like a good bunch of people here. PVR sounds familiar does he own a Z4?

Drove all the way from Colchester to Stoke to check this monster out:
http://usedcars.knightsnorthstaffsbmw.c ... =se_ce_co_

What a beast. The only draw backback is it doesn't have a reverse camera and there are few scratch marks which the dealer will take care of this week. One annoying thing is they are not giving any floormats. Apparently the previous owner ruined it so they threw it out. Thinking of not giving them my m3 floormat as well as it is in good condition only thing is whether it will fit in the x5 or not?

That's quite a basic spec isn't it?

Not worth holding out for something better?

M3 looks nice

That spec isn't bad.

Missing would be the Head Up Display, Speed Limit Display, Reversing Camera, All round vision with top down (cameras under the mirrors and in the front wings, climate control (you have a/c only), rear window blinds, lane departure warning, rear seat heating, radar cruise control.

Essentials would (IMHO) be the cameras, comfort seats (you'll need em with sports susp  ;) ) and climate control rather than just a/c.

Is the tailgate powered?  Can't remember when it became standard on the E70.

hmmm wish i could wait for one that has all of the options you have listed Richard. I really wanted the reverse camera but haven't been able to find a dealer that has an X5 who is willing to give me a decent part exchange value for my m3. Now if someone was to buy my m3 privately (not one call since i put it up on PH about two weeks ago) i would in that case take my time to find the right spec but don't have that luxury. I am surprised by the climate control spec, i need to query that. Tailgate isn't powered but i never had a need for it ever before and don't see myself using it.

HUD would have been nice. Can't really be too picky when you are buying a used car, i suppose.

They all have climate

Sports seats are fine

Having reviewed again The only essential missing is the cameras and I would have though 90% of the cars have this hence my comment of waiting for the right one

Things missing:

camera, but you know that (I didnt have on my E70 and wasnt bothered, would now definitely spec it since I've had them on my new F15)

pano sunroof... it makes a huge difference to the light inside the car (but youve driven it so know whether its an issue)

upgraded speakers... the basic are pants. (how good is your hearing?)

Guess it depends how important these things are to you in particular.

Cant believe dealer is willing to lose the sale over a set of mats. Bet you they change their mind if you tell them no deal :)

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end

.....then tell them you can get a perfectly good set of mats made for about £30!  I did  :)

I got a set of beige ones with the car (now in a bag in the loft) and a set of black ones are in the car.

I quite like the sport seat actually :)

yeah i am still bit annoyed about the reverse camera. They have a 30D with reverse camera but i rather have the 40D with that little bit of extra kick.

Yes regarding mats, i can't believe how petty they are about it. I will just take my m3 mats out as well.

I am planning on doing reverse camera install myself, found the installation manual:
http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e70/e ... 417969.pdf

Not fussed about Pano roof as i heard it can go wrong quite a lot?

Speakers might upgrade them down the line. I am quite fine with the basic package to be honest as I keep the volume on low most of the time.

I guess must have options are owner specific.

I wanted a 4.0d with Pano roof, 7 seats, comfort access and reverse camera + top view.

I ended up with one that has all the above plus front (side) cameras, HUD, media pack (CD + USB and HDD), 4 zone climate, heated seats, Pro Nav, BMW assist + online.

Make sure you hunt around - you will find one with all the bits you want, just have to be patient.

I got the alloys painted as after 6 months they started to corrode again and I don't particularly like the polished finish anyway.

They are a good car, swift enough (but not quick) especially if coming from something quicker.

Cheers

Steve

I've just had mine mapped and I'd say it's pretty rapid , I'm sure it'd shock a lot of high performance cars !

Still crave a bit more power though , makes me wonder if I should have bought the x5m or if there's even more power available from mapping ?
