I've just tried my aux heating again this (chilly) morning.
All the vents were open (!) and the heater dial thingy in between the vents on the middle of the dash was turned to the warmest setting.
I checked after 20 minutes and it's about as useful as an asthmatic fly blowing on the windscreen!

Is mine broken?! :(

waka dont want to teach you to suck eggs etc but you are setting aux heating and not aux ventilation?? as aux vent is only cold air not aux heating!! two separate things.

Hi discerning owners ot the Big Intimidator. I am a newbie, got X5 couple of weeks ago, and I am thrilled. The original buyer ticked all the option boxes, apart from the heating remote. Right now I am trying to enable the heater, the weather calls for it. Shame the BMW leaves these things hidden. Maybe they want us to go back and spend lot of £££'s. OK, I have managed to get my heater going by wiring the pin 1 to +ve. I have ordered the RS LEWES remote control, I like it as it has a protective slide over buttons, avoiding the inevitable accidental operation and it only £29 +VAT. Many thanks to you clever guys for providing this information. I am sure, I will be here for more hints

This park heater function sounds great, can I be cheeky and ask if anyone near me with a scanner would be prepared to enable mine...would be happy to pay a few quid, I'm in Peterborough, cheers

Basicly if you put 12v to the green/white wire on the webasto it should run untill you take it off unless the battrey is low.[/quote]

I`ve tried putting 12V to the green/white wire on the webasto and nothing happens :( No clicks, whirs, nothing. Last winter, when I used it last, it worked fine every time. Should there be power on any of the other wires going to the webasto that I can check ?

how are you making the connection? i found it very difficult to get and maintain a good connection to this wire, i used a scotchlock in the end which worked ok.

I removed the insulation tape from where the output from the remote was soldered to that wire last year and connected a wire from the 12V terminal on teh bulkhead to that point. I am 100% there is a good connection and 12V is going into the unit on the white/green wire.

If I test it, the remote still switches, lights the LED and sends 12V to the webasto, just as it was last winter, the only difference now is that the webasto won`t fire up :(

im having a similar problem now, my heater worked earlier in the week, but the car had a flat battery yesterday, so i suspect my 5 year old battery is on its way out.
am just looking around for prices for a new one.
even with a battery charger connected up my heater is having problems..

Hi,
Recently had my heater replaced as it wasn't working correctly.
The indy that did the work discconnected my remote relay :x I reconnected it but still nothing when using the remote or when starting the car from cold ( 8'' snow here ) So I reset it for lockout, switch ignition to position 1 ( lights on dash on but engine not started ) and pull fuse for auxilary heater ( think it was number 59 in glove box ) and refit fuse after 30 seconds. Then try either starting engine from cold or put 12v green / white wire on heater.
You should here a fan noise & then eventually get diesel fumes from small exhaust under passenger side fornt footwell.
Hope this helps.
Mine seems to be working ok now, either by remote or when starting from cold. ( ticking noise when driving off from cold tells me its working :) )
Phil.

Hi I recently reprogrammed my car to display HEAT ON, I tested it this morning and I could hear the heater fire up but after a few minutes it shut down. I have done a bit of reading into this and got varied opinions.

Has anyone else had the same symptons and fixed it?

Is this a sign the battery is on its way out or the heater is faultly? I would love to get this working via the remote mod but dont want to waste money buying parts that are fully working.

thansk

Hi' I'm no expert on these but see my post above, worth a try.
The heater will go through a purge period prior to starting & could fail to ignite for a number of reasons. This is what happened to mine a while ago, I could hear noise of fan starting but it would not ignite & then eventually the fan just stopped & started for a few minutes before shutting down. Just got mine replaced under warranty but not cheap for full unit £ 800 fitted !!
Interestingly it says in the BMW handbook to start the heater monthly during the summer, I presume to keep it in good order but you could not do this if you didn't have the remote start facility or option to start on the OBD. I suspect that a lot of peoples heaters do not work & they will be oblivious to this ?
Phil.

HI all

sorry in advance if this has been covered

I like the idea of the remote heating so checked the green/white wire on the webasto with power probe which put 12v to it and the unit fired up Great
so the remote option will fire it up

1st question

my OBC only seams to have aux vent so will this still work or only blow cold air??

Do i need Aux heat for this to work or does the 12v override this?

Next question is what is a cheap scanner that will allow me to enable other functions e.g aux heat, alarm bleep etc

Is anybody from the teeside area that is able to do this

thanks in advance
