i dont think the turbo swap has caused the glowplug problems but if she's starting ok then right now i'd say glowplugs are the least of your worries
once she's running ok then i'd think about them

obviously i've not got a diesel and don't know if it's easier to change the glowplugs without the turbo in place .... if it is then ignore me and my ramblings and go for it

Turbo shouldn't have any effect on the plugs.  They are however a common failure and if you are replacing them then seriously consider doing the controller as well.  It frequently fails just after the plugs are done  >:(

Will change plugs and controller might as well.

Turbo being on or off makes no odds, not in way etc, I'll just have to wait for the new turbo so might as well do some other bits in mean time.

Just don't know if those 2 error were me and should be self fixing, or if I need to be doing something else for them whilst awaiting turbo.

Specifically the 4521 charge air one, surely me undoing rail plug wouldn't cause this error, but not a clue what it means or could be caused by...

Have you managed to get your money back on that turbo or are they replacing it?

Don't know yet, need to remove it and then send for warranty inspection.

update upex. the old intake manifold was split from front to turbo bolt holes about 6 inches, cracked around the  bolt holes its a wonder it ever run, turbo rebuilt new compresser wheel, which was well deformed that orange plastic piece on your turbo that has broken finnes, mine didnt have that  turbo shop said it must of been an after thought, there was no play in the shaft at all (didnt force it to hard) my turbo cost about £240 to rebiuld with a 12 months warrenty.

It's not apparent in the twin turbo X6 either.  Thinking about it, I don't hear it in the E46 3.0d.  Must be a 'feature' of the E53.  At least we don't suffer 'boy racer whoosh' at every gear change.... :'(

Moose, do you mean your exhaust manifold was cracked, big time? Rather than inlet?

The plastic swirl inducer was at the cooler end, from turbo compresseor to cooler duct. If you checked there and not got it, I think that's a good thing lol.

Are you hoping it goes well, or have you done the job already? If not, hope it goes well, if so, glad it's all sorted!

sorry mate i meant exhaust manifold was cracked big time mate, (i reckon im tired) it has no swirl inducer on mine, job done took her for a run last night i'm well happy,

Cheers moose, yeah all well, she just side swiped a post down bumper and wing. It's not too bad after all the paint and dirt was shifted, so all well.

Glad you got yours sorted without issue moose, and glad to hear she back on top chat again. I'll be a very happy man when this one is.

Folks, just saw horizon comments that if glow plugs aren't working, dpf won't regenerate. Got me thinking, if my plugs have been duff for a while, could it have clogged my dpf and that be restricting airflow out of exhaust and that's where my power went, and what it's not come back with a new turbo (despite it catching) and all the other work done?

edit, ignore, as just read the rest of horizon post and it says x5 doesn't have dpf, so that's that one ruled out lol

Regards a new stat, is it advisable to only use bmw, or are aftermarket stats ok?

find a febi one ...... they've been putting genuine ones in their boxes

Regards code reading folks, what software and cable set up will I need to pull and reset the codes on the x5 so don't have to pop back to dealer 5 times, too many codes and stuff that I don't understand regards the software, would sp this work:
