Help on how to use the iPod connection

Post by IronMonkeyPimp » Sat May 17, 2014 11:22 pm

Hi - Ive recently bought a 55 plate X5 3.0d sport, and was told it had an iPod connection. In the glove box there is a cable which splits into 3 with a head phone jack, USB port and Ipod Cable.

I hooked up my iPod 30GB (about 7 years old) with the large connector , I was expecting to be able to toggle the mode button to see the iPod pop up on my screen - but nothing - it switches from radio to cd to tape.

I tried again connecting the headphone jack also - still no joy.

My question is what state does the iPod have to be in - what connectors need to be inserted and what should the head unit be switched to.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Xdrivers , if you have TV function on your head unit , try going through your tv stations to the very last  and it should say, aux, click on that , i use the aux in jack on the back of the center console to play my  iphone  but the sounds not great ..

Hi Colin - cheers.

I was being a dumbass - Theres also a Parrot system installed and the ipod connection was for that. I can play the ipod through there but its not great. It uses a small remote dongle for volume control - so its not ideal.

I'll go through the aux on the back of the stereo and do it properly. I don't suppose there's anything that allows you to hide the ipod away and control the ipod hrough the head unit - like navigate through folders and play playlists etc all through the head unit ??

Thx.

Intravee seems to be the best option on the E53 although there is a Dice setup as well. Sanj and others know a lot more than I do about them, hopefully they will be along soon.

Not sure but I had a similar problem with a 1 series

It had a USB and a jack connection in car but used the iPhone connector to USB only for my iphone to play music but no sound. in fact it required iphone connector to a USB with a jack lead for me to be able play the music.

It may be worth trying both leads in your the iPod or alternatively is it worth contact the dealer or previous owner about how it connected

I think I'm a bit more clued up on the iPod connection options now. I don't like the Parrot system for iPod control - My wife cant get the hang of it and its just too clunky.

Looked at the Intravee and Alpine KCA-420i which will do what I need. Loose the CD changer and have a iPod hidden away in the boot all being controlled through the big screen.

I decided to buy that setup but you cant get it anywhere. The intravee site has gone and nowhere has them in stock. How comes they stopped supplying them - by the looks of things they were quite popular  and did a good job. Looks like you can only get this on the second hand market now - unless someone can correct me....

Anything I need to watch out for buying a second hand Intravee II
Cheers.

There are quite a few people on here who are well up on the Intravee, hopefully they will come along soon.  They come up for sale on here and on ebay - be warned, get in quick as they sell very quickly on here, pvr tips off all his Z4M mates and they snap them up!

Whats the going rate for an Intravee II and KCA combo ?
Any common issues to look out for when buying used ?

Thanks

I bought one on here a few weeks ago for £185, they vary between £165 to £220 that I've seen on diff forums.

The reason the Intravee doesn't appear to be sold new anymore is the guy who created them passed away, but the 420 is still readily available.
