Mk4 DVD unit

Post by DorsetBlueVinNo » Fri May 30, 2014 2:44 pm

Hello All,
In the continuing 'my nav won't work' saga, a bit of a favour.  Is there anyone with an e53 anywhere local to north dorset (or Salisbury) who might let me try a 'swap-in, swap-out' with a working mk4 dvd unit to assess whether mine is knackered or not.  At least then I know if it's worth the £200 for a re-conned one. It's a lot to ask I know, but it's a ten-minute job (with no real mechanicals -just two clip-in leads and an aerial to swap over) and I can fund a beer or two.  :)
Yours in hope,
DBVN

Had the DVD unit looked at by Revtronic who replaced the laser head and it still didn't play properly but I'm just trying to see if there's anything else that's nadged. I'm hoping that if I quickly swap a working unit in and everything's fine then it must be the computer in the DVD unit that has had it.
I can live without the nacv but I just hate things not working as the Bavarians intended.  The other issue (possibly related) is that selecting Config Menu on the head unitbscreen causes freeze-up of the screen.
It's all good fun! ;)

Have you done a complete battery reset? Ie disconnect the battery completely for 20 minutes then reconnect?  Its worth a try if you haven't done this yet as it might sort out some of the glitches.

Good suggestion but have been there, put in a new battery and got the t-shirt! Thanks for the thought, though.  Other than this and a few usual (judging by what I read on here!) occasional suspension messages things are fine except with the nav, in which I'm using a proper stealership disc.

Oh dear, its likely to be the nav computer in that case - as you said, recon units available around £200 but would be nice to check if not other problem is causing this fault with known working unit.

Indeedy! :) I'm guessing the nav computer is integral to the DVD unit itself?

Yes.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
