air suspension problem what now!!!
air suspension problem what now!!!
Evening all.
ok so driving home from work and approaching the house at approx. 20mph I hear the air suspension pump kick in,so I drive on about 50 yards to home and get out and the rear of the car is sitting right up in the air on both sides equally a gap of approx. 8 to 10 inches...
No Fault on dash check control says ok.....anyone any ideas?
its a 2004 4.4i sport just rear air suspension.
Thanks Guys.

Re: air suspension problem what now!!!
Oh dear. If you read my ongoing saga you will see how quickly this can become hugely expensive and a nightmare....mine is doing this at the moment but its fortunately an extended warranty issue as the costs would be rapidly escalating. You really need to get the car plugged in to a diagnostic machine so ride heights etc can be checked and reset and any stored faults cleared, then it becomes a case of checking airbags, checking sensors etc, possibly also the compressor itself or even the ECU could be faulty, the self levelling suspension can be a real nightmare when faults start happening -so much so that many have changed the system to coil overs. i would certainly be doing that if this was not a warranty repair as the dealership have had my car 3 days and counting and its still not fixed and going back on Wednesday after the BH. All they really can replace now is the ECU and the compressor I think, heaven knows at what cost this would have been if not for the warranty.

Re: air suspension problem what now!!!
Could just be a dodgy sensor but then could be the pump or control module.
You really need to get it plugged in to determine.
This is why I know quite a few people end up binning it off completely.
If it's an expensive repair I do have a set of KW coilovers for sale in the for sale section (just a thought).
Good luck though and hopefully it is nothing too expensive.

Re: air suspension problem what now!!!
The sensors cost around £100 each - thats the cheapest fix for the air suspension, the other parts, like the bags, the compressor, the ECU and air pressure splitter or whatever its called, are really expensive. The ECU is an eye watering £1700 or so

Should never be the ecu for the air suspension as it has its own control module which is about £700.

Re: air suspension problem what now!!!
They muttered something about two control units, one to split the air pressure and another to control the ride height etc. then the software calibration etc. always mystifies me how they get to these huge prices. The air splitter valve /pressure control unit isn't really an ECU though, is it? I think the front air suspension alone, the bags, sensors etc comes to about £1500 from what they told me yesterday. As long as I don't have to pay for it, I will be interested to see how high they get the final bill!
