What new tyres to fit?

Hi, I am just about to change are set of 20's to non run flat tyres to see if it softens up the ride slightly and after looking at reviews I have come up with a short list of tyres that are in the same price bracket.
The list is as follows and wondered if anyone has had any experience of them?:-

Hankook Ventus S1 Evo K107A

Falken fx453cc

Vredestein ultrac vorti

Vredestein ultrac SUV sessanta

Toyo Proxes ST

Toyo Proxes T1 sport SUV

If you want comfort and a quiet ride, I'd go for Michelin Latitude Sport 3 (quite new). Not cheap, but should go the distance! I tend to check out the EU tyre ratings as much as anything now when choosing now, just to get a good combination of fuel efficiency, noise and grip etc. Manufacturers and lots of other websites have all this info on, so worth some trawling if you haven't already...

I've always had good experience with Hankook and Michelin ... hated Vredestein, dstroyed toyos in a couple of thousand miles

I have a couple of these in the basket at blackcircles - Ventus S1 Evo 2 SUV K117A .. my X5 has 4 different treads (last owners fault - and maybe why my steering is soo heavy) and going to replace front this month, rear maybe next.

[/quote]I will probably go for the Hankook's, I will have to go for the S1 Evo K107A though because  the 275/40/20 you can buy in the Evo and Evo 2 but at the moment you can't get the 315/35/20 in the Evo 2.
They do make it but yesterday I spoke to Hankook UK and they are not going to import the 315 Evo 2 until they have sold there stock of Evo 1's in this size.

[/quote]I tried the pilot sport 3 on our last 3 series and yes they are good tyres and last the distance but in my opinion they are not worth the extra money.
I had Michelin as factory fit on my VW T5 and the Falken's are now run on that are about half the price, drive well and last just as long.

On the X5 as set of latitude Sport 3's will be about £1000 and all the tyres on my list above are around £700 a set.

I can get the  Michelin Latitude Sport 3 for around another £200, any one tried them yet? but I know they have only just come out.

If they're anything like the Sportmaxx range (had those as OEMs on my Audi S3), they'll give great steering feedback and dry weather grip, but quite a firm ride...

Thanks Slim. The main reason for the change is ride comfort. Spoke to Birds BMW to see what they'd recommend and they said continentals are the way forward.

Getting a bit fed up with the ride comfort, but love the car.....  :blink:

Did they say which Contis by any chance?  I've got the Contisport 5s on the E46 replacing the OEM Michelin Pilot Sports.

Just looking at options to replace the Summer tyres on my X6.  Will probably stay RFT though as I don't have an issue with the ride even on 20" wheels.

Not specifically as they only do 3s and 5s, not the x.

I also have an x6 on 20s. Currently have duelers RFT and the ride is doing my head in... Nearly swapped it for a cayenne, and have thought about a RRS, but love the 6 and don't want to p#ss anymore money against the wall....

Have thought about falken 453s or non RFT duelers or conti 4x4 sport contacts....

[/quote]After reading lots of views some people are saying the  453CC has a firm ride.
I am probably going to go Vredestein ultrac vorti on our E70 as there has been some good reviews on Xoutpost forum or may pay the extra £200 and try the new Mich latide sport 3.

I don't have an E70 but have an E53 with 20" Yokohama Advan ST's. 30k miles later and just changed the fronts. The rears are still going strong with plenty of tread left. Love them.

Same here, E53 with Yokohama Advan ST on 19's, quite a 'lumpy' ride, but handle well. They are quite noisy according to the EU ratings blurb, but this is my first X5, so nothing to compare with...

20"tyres...
Ive just done exactly this move, from RFT,s to Non RFT,s...
I had the Bridgestone RFTs on the car, ive just replaced them with the Toyo T1 Sport suv tyres.
And have tested them nicely, having just done a weekend "thrash" from Blackpool, to Spa in Belgium [Spa classic racing]... Aprox 1600 mile round trip...
They were brilliant, even my passengers commented on how comfy and supple the ride was, the car is a 3.0sd M sport version.
The road noise is slightly quieter, but its the ride comfort that was a big improvement.

Oh and on a side note.
I was after the Toyo Proxy S/T,s, but couldnt get them in the 275 fronts from anywhere, and beleive me i tried... I think Toyo are phasing them out.
The only reason i was after these was so i could swap them round on the rim / wheel when they wear the inside or outside edges out due to the X5 BMW alighnment settings.  >:( As you cant do this with assimetric tyres.. >:( >:( In fact it seems very dificult to get NON assimetric tyres now... ::) ::)
