Anyone had their E70 detailed? Or does anyone here do it?

Post by stu21t » Wed May 07, 2014 10:11 pm

As above, anyone had it done? Or anyone on here a detailer?
Got and before/after pics? Esp if black
What was the cost (I'm guessing around £500 for a std detail?)
Can you recommend anyone in south london?

I've got a black x5 with the usual age related marks.
No major scratches or anything that requires heavy cutting, just mainly swirl marks from years of cheap sponges and chamois I guess.

But if you don't mind it would be very helpful to chat to you.
I know my way around a car and cleaning, to a degree lol.

I will pm you a few questions when I've got more time if that's ok?

Also into detailing, but not near you I am in Derbyshire. This is a great forum if you want to learn more about detailing or want recommendations for detailers.

Just had mine done by All That Gleams - http://allthatgleams.co.uk
Tom has looked after my cars for a while now, and his work is exceptional. He's based in Weybridge, so will probably cover your area.

Fantastic job, and went for the CQuartzUK coating after I saw the results on a friends car.

I can't upload the shots showing swirl mark before and after, so here's some general ones I took...

That does look very nice.
Did your car just have the usual swirl marks?
Can I ask what it cost to have done?
Cheers

I've got a load of pictures, but I'm struggling to upload them as an album - help someone please! I can send via email if you pm me your address.

I had swirls plus some deeper scratches and the usual paint damage ahead of the rear arches (mine doesn't have film there). He got rid of the scratches, and also managed to significantly reduce the visibility of the stone chips, particularly when the CQuartzUK was applied - amazing stuff. It really does give the paint a 'liquid glass' look!

He was working on the car for about 12 hours! Cost varies depending on the work (his website has pricing) - £395 for a correction detail on a 4X4 plus the CQuartzUK, which I think was about £75. However Tom can tailor the work according to what the car really needs - for example mine didn't need anything doing to the interior, so he spent all his time on the exterior.

Finer Detailing up near Manchester.

Iain has done my last 8 cars from new.  Here's an X he did not long ago now at his unit (though he also does mobile): http://www.finerdetails.co.uk/2014/04/

Say Robin with the <ahem> Bentley recommended him :-)

Just finished my first machine polish,

Used the clay bar first, then 2 coats of Meguiars NXT 2.0 Tech Wax with the orbital machine using a soft polishing pad & the slowest setting,

Finished off with a coat of Auto Glym extra gloss protection sealant applied by hand,

Results were OK for a first attempt, some light swirl marks were removed but i was more concerned with not damaging the paint & building a shine rather than any correction,it will take more than a few goes to get  confident with the machine,

The NXT is the best wax I've used to date, better than carnubas i've bought for 3 times the price
