Post by redz » Wed May 14, 2014 7:11 pm

As title..

How long does your aircon last after 'filling up'??

I regassed mine in August 2011 and it's completely gone..

In my other cars it's lasted twice as long!!

It's probably got a small leak on the refrigerant circuit . It is recommended that you use the Aircon on a regular basis to prevent the seals drying out. They can inject an ultra violet additive in with the gas to show up any leaks.
I have had several cars with air con and only had to have one re gassed.

I'd agree with the leak theory.  Unless you aren't using the a/c all the time?  The system needs to be run to keep the seals in good nick otherwise they dry out and the system starts to lose gas - up to 15% a year.

My E53 only had to be topped up once when it was about 5 years old.  Our E46 is 9 years old and is still fine.

The a/c climate control in our cars is just left on all the time as it makes naff all difference in terms of fuel economy.

I've had mine topped up and 'repaired' twice since I got the car.  First time they found a leak from a seal (and I do leave the air con on all the time as advised) and the second time when they found a leak from a passing Schrader valve.
Canada can be a bit punishing on air con systems because it's darn cold in the winter and darn hot in the summer...

my aircon appears to be blessed with no leaks so far in 5 years of ownership. it still gets down to +1C at the vents.
in winter i usually leave it off and just run it briefly every couple of weeks.
