smokin!

Post by tractorjacob » Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:43 am

Hi all, quick question about my 3.0d e53 (2004)
On starting the beast there is a fair amount of smoke coming from the exhaust.
This only lasts about 10 seconds and then its fine.
Only happens when the car is first started in the morning.

This is my first diesel car and other threads on here suggest this is the norm and I was quite happy with that.
However I spoke to a mate of mine who has exactly the same model as me and he says he gets no smoke at all on start up.

Can you guys confirm if this is normal enough and any reason why his has no smoke at all?
Just to put my mind at rest.
Cheers folks!

It was the same on my mate 3.0d and my 530d... just a small amount of unburned fuel passing through from startup.

Mine does it too - hoping a breather and air filter change early next year might help reduce that a little (not sure though)!

Thanks for that!
My wife will hopefully drop the subject now and stop telling me we need a new car!
