Car Pulling & Steering slightly heavy

Post by Hits553 » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:50 am

Hi Guys

I'm in a slight panic mode since weekend when i swap my summer wheels for my winters.

Whilst changing the front passenger side some i rotated the wheel a whole circle as it was jacked up with the other 3 on the road and that’s all i can think if which is causing me a problems.......from my previous experience when i put my 19" back on the car feels a little lighter to when riding on the 21" on the steering wheel but this time round it felt heavier.

Well once i had all 4 done first stop was the tyres pressures which are set, but the car still felt like it was not 100%

The symptoms are its pulling to the left more then normal and there is a slight winning noise at around 15/20mph which you can hear very slightly and the steering wheel slightly heavy, i don’t know if this is just me being paranoid.

Does anyone one if me spinning the wheel whilst it was jacked up had caused a problems with the complicated drive train on the X :(

Oh ya its a E53 3.0d

The location of the wheel does not matter, i.e. turning it or not does not matter at all.

Did you put the same wheel on the same corner as last year? I carefully marked mine to ensure that the left front was on the same left front again etc. Just that tyres wear a certain direction and changing the turn direction by putting it on the other side of the car could result in the tyre not being too happy.

Well i thought about that as i was earlier, i thought i'd got them the right way. May just swap them over on weekend and see if that makes a difference.

At least i know that me spining thw wheel whilst on the car didnt make a difference

Cheers PVR

OK well i changed the front wheels over and still the same, :headbang: my next concern were the wear tyres. I had 2 part worn conti just put on the rear and notice one is a 111v and the other 111W. Plus the fronts are Michelins. :fuelfire:

The car just dont feel right, especially on the high street and the X is tram ining more then usual, also feels like its a little heavy as though the tyres are a little flat.

Would the tyres be the reason the X is acting like a lemon?

I was going to wait till the fronts were alittle more to the end of life but i might just replace all four now and see if that help.
