Punched in the face by a Hyundai

I got hit by a Hyundai on a roundabout - blue skies and mid morning, but still my X couldn't be spotted.  Didn't get too grumpy - it's only plastic and metal and it was someone's Grandad feeling very embarrassed.  His insurers admitted liability even if he didn't, but it still took nrly 2 months to agree that it was going to be repaired by a mainline dealer.

Thought you might be surprised that the quotes were just shy of £4k and just shy of £6k  :blink:

It went into the bodyshop this morning and we have a Mini Countryman to play with for the week.

Was offered it by dealership (if I sign for the hire car and then claim as a loss), but I am not convinced that it's mitigating your loss to take out a very expensive hire of an equivalent vehicle and I've had mates struggle to get their money back.  Mon-Fri the car is only used to take the kids to school and we're toying with the idea of getting a newer 2nd car so quite happy to have an extended test drive (and the jury's still out on whether it's a success)

We have a Countryman as a second car, and apart from the fuel economy being dire compared to what it should be (30% worse) it's a long way from being as 'shitty' as 535dboy might have you believe.

It's done us pretty well but won't be replaced with another one come June when it goes back.  Not particularly good value for money in my view.  You can get a lot of car for £34k - and a Mini does not equal those others on the market in that price bracket.  It may have all the toys, but it was still to expensive for what it offers.

Ours is 2012 Cooper SD All4.  42mpg instead of 65mpg is unnacceptable, but 'acceptable' to BMW/Mini even if a 1er or 3er with the same engine is much better economy wise.

For a while the E46 is to be put back into use.  Needs a pair of tyres and an MOT and all good. Bi've been doing things on it to get it ready.

Longer term I suspect it won't be a BMW.  Current favourite is a Skoda Superb L&K estate.  Even with all the toys it's still cheaper than the Countryman and twice the size.  It also does high 50's mpg from the same sized engine and 170bhp.  She can't face an Audi, but the Skoda looks to be a good deal TBH - and it's mainly VAG bits anyway.

We need something to carry the little man and all of his 'support equipment'... ::)
