Sounds too low.  Should be low 30's on a run and mid 20's around town.

All of the above done how do you think a thermostat would help? I get a slight flutter/hesitation on the throttle around 1800rpm on low load was thinking could be air mass ??

If the thermostat is opening incorrectly it can cause the car to stay in 'cold' mode which uses more fuel.

Is your temp gauge moving to the centre of the dial?

Just done 60miles motorway driving 75-80mph on cruise. Wouldn't go anymore than 28 after resetting the comp

If you feel the gears are holding for too long there was a gear box software update on these early cars to help them with better mpg

Ok yes it does do that actually so much so I replaced gearbox filter and oil last night. Much smoother changes and not holding gears for as long though. Will try update
Today :-) cheers

Even "on a run" it will depend on driving style, congestion and other factors (such as tyre pressures etc) but I can go from the south coast via motorway to Scotland and get 39-41 mph.
