Out of interest: what is that control between the instrument binnacle and the head unit screen?

I think you mean that push button mounted on that piece of wood trim ?
I'ts marked TM and switches the Nav over to traffic monitoring system which is no longer subscribed.
I get a blue screen with a very basic road map on it showing traffic jams etc (if it was active).
I assume not everyone has this function then ?  Car is 2003, 3.0d Sport.

I could remove it if I could blank it off ?  :ninja:

You may be able to replace just that one piece of trim to replace the one drilled to accommodate the TM push button.  Would make it all nice and neat!!!

When looking for an X5 I originally wanted the the aluminium or piano black and ended up with dark wood.

However it is ok and probably goes better with the light beige leather, but on a black interior I would want black or aluminium trim but they can be changed to suit. Some were even blue inside from the factory
Now: E70 X5 in Blue, 3 Minis Cooper S R53, JCW R56 & Cooper S Roadster R59 :drive:

I have been trawling the sale sites for the X5 to find a picture of the piano black trim but no luck - anybody got a pic ?

They mostly seem to the silver trim which can look a bit common.  Black leather seats look good if there is a bit of contrast stitching maybe.
