seat belt return mechanism 2004 E53 X5 3.0 d Sport

Post by Smeeagain » Tue Dec 07, 2010 5:18 pm

My seat belt doesn't return instantly when I release it. Doesnt appear to be twisted or fouled. Can I access the housing for the anchor points and it it an easy fix or a replace job ?

I cured this by pulling the seatbelt right out and spraying silicon on the belt, do this a few times and it gets back into the mechanism.

I got mine in Halfords. It's also good for use around the house to get rid of squeaks when you don't want to use WD40.

Nah I find a shotgun works better than WD40 where he's concerned :-)

I had this. Was fixed under warranty but came back a year or so later. Silicone spray sounds like a good idea.

Does this stuff get on your clothes or do you just spray the part of the belt that you don't use? I have Warranty and the same problem occurs in mine... I wonder if it is worth going to them with it?

Spot on - did this is on mine about a year ago. Pull the belt all the way out and then spray, help it cover the mechanism with a few retractions as you spray.

Seems all X5 seatbelts don't retract too well! Has continued to work, not perfect but MUCH better.

Nice one...

The devil in me wants to take it to the dealers to squeeze what I can out of the extortionate Warranty though

I tried this earlier and seems to have improved the situation. I will let it work its way in over night and re do tomorrow and psot back

In terms of accessing the mechanism directly, is there an easy/simple way to remove the interior door pillar trim to get straight to it ?
