Retro fit Power Boot Lid

Has anybody actually done this? If so, how was it done? What's needed?

If I was to purchase parts from say a breakers is it easy to fit (new hinges, control module etc) and then code up?

I've seen there was an old post on this but it didn't get many replies.

I don't think anyone on this site has done it. Have a look at Xoutpost and see if anyone in the US has done it. Might be a guide on their site

I have the power boot and it's a nice luxury but it isn't a "must have" in the same way leather seats or sat nav is. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't give up dozens of hours to source the bits and then install the bits and I wouldn't write a cheque for £650-700 of parts. This will be a serious investment in time and money.

My personal view is that you won't recover the cost on resale and it won't enable you to enjoy the car lots more (unlike fitting a towbar which can mean you can carry bikes more easily, or tow a caravan etc).

You will feel jusitifably very proud if you do this - and you'll be a legend on XDrivers I am sure, but if I were you with that much money burning a hole in the pocket, I'd take the family to Centerparcs for the week instead

If you want it,its worth it for example I just did a High beam assist retrofit on my E70.
I wouldnt think it was that expensive at order stage but at the time I never thought i'd need it.
Bought the part from fleabay and the neccesary connectors/repair wires from bmw fitted the hardware & wiring coded up,all is working like a dream!
Ok my retrofit aint no where near the expense or time involved as your proposed retrofit but the choice at the end of the day is totally yours,
