Retrofitting rear entertainment system

Post by MrMaloo » Sun Apr 20, 2014 6:12 pm

Anyone done this? I've got a digital tv function already so just wondering how much work is involved? Do the wires for the headrest screens run down inside the actual seats? Is the wiring already present for the rear mounted dvd player in the cabin?

Thanks

Jon

Hi Jon - so what do you have in mind? Buy some headrest screens and mount them into your X5 headrests or buy an all-in-one headrest kit with the screens already mounted?

If so, which ones are you getting, the ones that have the DVD player already in them? No need for additional wires then. All you have to do is take the wiring through the back of each seat and connect to a positive and negative source in the car. You could buy IR earphones and only the headsets get to hear the audio from those screens.

Can get complicated if you want the audio through the car and the front screen to get the same video source as the rear screens. But can be done. Decide what set-up you want first, happy to help where I can.

Just noticed these on the net, looks like they can be fitted to most cars, not a bad price I thought for a decent mod.

No idea how good they are, that post doesn't even show the actual screens. Be very careful going for anything like this, most are cheap and you'll regret it. Keep searching and do a search on this forum for previously posted threads. There are some recommendations...

Was thinking more along the lines of getting some headrests with bmw screens already in from a breakers...would it just then be a case of running the existing headrest wires down through my seatback? Is there any kind of existing wiring below the seats for it to plug into? If i got the oem dvd player does that justsit down there too?

Nothing you get will plug into the car. You will have to splice into the loom.
