Firstly I will apologise because I know these threads pop up all the time but I have searched this forum and other forums and cannot seem to find an answer.
I have recently purchased a 2005 (55) X5 3.0D. I'm getting the long beep as described in all threads about parking sensors. So I turned the key to Ignition 2, put her in reverse and then listened out for the clicking.
All of the rears click (even one which has lost its housing and is tucked inside the bumper).
None of the front ones click at all.
It may sound stupid but they would still work even though it was in reverse right? I mean if I was parallel parking, I would want front and rears to alert me if I was reversing?
What shall I do next?
Is there anyone around Borehamwood/North London that could help diagnose the problem with a scanner maybe?

All the sensors come on in reverse or manually and stay on until you exceed about 10mph going forward.
Have a look on the forum for this PDC problem as I can't remember whether they run in series or parallel and the loss of one can kill all on each end. It's been asked before so you should find the answers with any luck.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Sounds as though one or more front sensors isnt working. May be the sensor be may a connection. If I recall correctly (someone correct me if Im wrong) you need to loosen/drop the bumper to get at the fronts properly. A scanner will pick up the issue if it is the front sensors.
