All joking aside I have found a 2002 3.0i Sport with Prinz LPG and 110,000 miles on the clock advertised for £4995. I might take a closer look at it if it is still available. What sort of things should I be looking out for?

Whilst trawling the web for my dream car I came across a couple of cars that seem too good to be true i.e bloody cheap. What are your thoughts on these beauties?

I called about this car first thing this morning but it had already sold. That's the second 3.0i Sport LPG to get away from me in the last week.  >:(

there are some bargains out there, I paid a 3 number figure for my 2001 3.0i sport x5. it did need work. but with 112k miles and an alcoholic previous owner it was a bargain.
ive been doing bits to it but it almost sorted and it great  ;)

All way too cheap, especially the E70's. Steer clear for sure.

Hi it's worth checking that all the electrics work windows seats roofs mirrors the lot.

If with LPG check when that was serviced as well as the main service. Check tyres as they can wear on inside edge due to camber and can be costly to replace.

Check the gearbox for operation is smooth no lurching as expensive to repair as some have found, as well as rear suspension should be same level each side it's possibly air suspension at rear not 100% if you read buyers guide on the e53 section that will also help advise what to check.

Thanks for the advice Graeme, I bought a 2003 3.0D Sport on Thursday and even though I went armed with your information I got caught out with a dodgy passenger side wing mirror. I check operation for adjustment and dip on selection of reverse but didn't realise (therefore check) the mirrors folded. It wasn't until I gave the wagon a wash and polish that I discovered the mirror could detach from its mounting, only being attached to the car by the wiring loom and being held in place by nothing but the effects of gravity and balance.
Oh well I thought and started to look for a replacement on the internet only to discover how rare and expensive even second hand ones are.  :(

There are a couple of other issues and questions but I will start separate threads for them.

Anyone selling cars without giving a proper contact number is most likely a scammer. I've been seeing more and more of ads with email addresses being embedded with the pictures!! Defo stay away and always remember, if it sounds too good to be true, then it most probably is.
