Slight jolt engaging 1st - Auto box fault or perfectly normal?

Evening Guys. Wondered if anyone else has experienced the same with their 8 speed e70....

If I'm slowing down to a near stop and then accelerate reasonably hard the auto box seems to delay the engage of gear (probably only a second) and then when it does engage it jolts slightly.

Perfectly smooth under all other conditions including hard pull away from standing start. Has anyone else experienced this?

Any comments appreciated.

Not had it on mine.  But then I don't drive like that.  If I know I'm going to need rapid acceleration I use 'Sport' mode.

Hi Richard, that's given me a thought - I'll try doing the same in sport mode and see what happens. Most common case this can occur is at the approach to a roundabout when almost coming to a stop then pulling away quickly. It's only a slightly jolt in the power delivery but I'm concerned I should get it checked out whilst under AUC warranty before remapping.

What I occasionally find is that if the car is cold then there can be a delay in reaction from the box, but in Sport that goes away.  I think it is as you suspect, the box is trying to get to 2nd whereas 'sport' forces 1st.

Yes I think you're right, the delay is engaging 2nd not 1st. Have you / are considering remapping your 40d? I'm thinking this could make the power delivery smoother as the delay I'm told is reduced

Not yet as it's under warranty and BMW can tell if I have it done.  I've seen comments on the web that when the car is connected to the BMW System in a stealership it can read the ECU and re flash it back to the last 'official' update state.

TBH 306bhp and 700nm of torque is fine for me.... . I have a year old son so my tearing up the roads days are behind me for now.  :'(

[/quote]Same here, used to have a nice list of fast cars but now look at life differently when we go out in the  E70 with our two boys, one 19 months and the other is only 4 days as he was born last Thursday

X5 makes for excellent family transport, feels very safe and secure, wished Id bought one earlier.

[/quote]The X5 is a great tool for the family but it was my wife's choice really, I wanted an A6 3.0tdi S line Quattro estate. An A6 estate actually has more space in the back than the X5, its better on fuel, much better ride etc.
We did know what we were buying with regards running costs, ride etc with the X5.

I'd be checking all of the bushes on your rear suspension as my friend had similar issues until he changed some of his - good luck with it
