Xenons?

Post by pcdee » Thu Apr 03, 2014 9:35 pm

Hello all

Do all E70's have xenons?

How can I tell if mine has them before I buy some LED AE.

Thanks

No, not all do as it depends upon trim level/year.  Look for a lightning flash high voltage hazard warning under the bonnet by the lights. If present then you have HIDs.

Or, do your lights look white or yellowish?  Blue-white means HIDs

Or, when you turn you lights on do they flash momentarily and then brighten up?  If yes, you have HIDs.

Or, can you adjust the beam height in the car?  No.....then you have HID (Xenons).

you don't need to check under bonnet.  Simply open your car door.  Look where your selector switch for dipped, main beam is etc.  If you have two knurled wheels on it ( one for dash dimming and other for beam height adjustment ) then you don't have xenon.  If you have one knurled wheel there, then you do! simple.

doesn't matter if you have Xenons or not to replace the halogen angel eyes with LEDs.

Not that easy.  The E70 non-HID uses a different AE illuminator than the HID version.  It's not like the E53.

I find it crazy that you don't know - only because xenons are a crucial feature for me and would never buy a car without. Once you've had xenons, its hard to ever go back.

When i bought my 09 E70, I just assumed it had Xenons as standard, but it didn't, and the lights were shite, and i couldn't upgrade the Halo's (not easily anyhow).

Bought a pair of complete Xenon headlight units, to do a retro fit, but sold the car before i had chance.

So that reminds me, i must put these up for sale.... ::)

I'm looking at various options right now. Lux V4, Dtec v8, Mtec... there are quite a few

Yeah, the prices are ridiculous. I already have some cheap leds in there so it's white but not bright. The dtec v9 is out in America abd looks super bright but I feel like a tool paying 200 for brighter halos!
