Has anyone removed and replaced their centre console aluminium trim?

Post by UrbanFlow » Tue Apr 01, 2014 1:26 pm

Looking to buy an E70.
It's in great condition apart from two pieces of aluminium trim inside - which have tiny dents and marks all over them.
One is the left rear door trim (probably caused by a child passenger), the other is the centre console trim on the drivers side. One of the strips that runs along the edge.

Has anyone removed/replaced this aluminium trim?
Is it easy or is it a dealer job?

I looked at REALOEM for a fiche and it appears to have a screw at one end but not sure if the rest just pops on and off!

If I buy the car I definitely want to replace it.

The aluminium trim seems particularly susceptible to dents as our X5 had several pieces with damage on the centre console. I replaced them and it was a bit time consuming but with TIS to guide me it wasn't difficult.

I took the good ones back off before we sold the car so if you do buy the car, drop me a line as I have a complete set in very good condition that I no longer need.

Hi Mavster, no It was in Wimbledon.
The damage is only on two panels and relatively minor compared to some I viewed!
One X5 I looked at looked as though it had been tapped all over the trim with a rock hammer - probably had a dog with long claws leaping around in it. I too walked away.

OK cool. I'll give it a go.
What is this TIS that guided you??!
Sounds like I need it.

Mail dropped to you about the spare trim. Cheers.

Hi Matt,

I have replied to your mail this evening. TIS is BMW's Technical Information Service. You should be able to buy a copy of it on DVD off eBay. It's very good info and will talk you through almost screw by screw on how to do pretty much whatever you need to do.
