M sport suspension removal and replace with SE

Post by kjb1 » Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:27 am

Hi all.  Question.  Can the suspension be swapped out on the m sport in replace for SE suspension? has anyone here ever done it? or vice versa etc.  And also, if it is possible, is anyone willing to swap? lol.  Let me know, as in my m sport suspension for SE.
We have the sports suspension on our E70 and I was also looking into the differences.
When I looked on the BMW parts computer to compare sports vs standard suspension I found the part no.s were different for the front shocks and springs and the rear shocks and airbags, the air bag pump and suspension arms looked the same.
The only thing I didn't check was to see if the anti-roll bars were different.

It's all interchangeable for sure. Just a matter of the cost etc.

Can't see why the rear airbags would be different but the shocks for sure and front springs as the rates will be different.

Seems a bit extreme , why not try an X5 with 19" wheels m sport first at a dealers , then one without Runflats , I noticed that the tyres are the main problem once they have been used 4mm & below they are very bumpy on the roads . Quite a few have changed to none Runflats on here see if they are local to compare !

Higher operating pressure?  Thicker construction (increased stiffness) perhaps?
The bag acts as a  spring on the rear so if you put an uprated spring on the front I guess you need to uprate the bags at the rear. There must be some difference as there is two parts no.s for with and without sports suspension.
Are you still on run flats?.
My brother inlaws Q7 S line on 21's had a softer ride than our X5 but the X5 did get good reviews on how it takes the corners.

It will, it's a massive difference. I would try it first unless your current tyres are new

Oh, it seems a bit wasteful to change them then. Although you could probably get good money for them on ebay...

Only reason we are still on run flats is we had over 6mm on the tyres when we bought our car.
