Hi all, New X5 owner -- picked her up this morning and so far verrrry happy.
I have a question about the aftermarket bluetooth units that you can get for the X5. I have fitted similar in other cars (GROM in the wifes Discovery and an XCarLink in my old celica) They worked great... except... In both cases if a call came through while you where listening to the RADIO then you were not notified by a ringing through the car speakers. If I was streaming music it worked fine (as the music and phone came through the same BT link).
Ive read on here about BT units that replace the CD changer (same as the GROM) but am I right in assuming they have the same limitation?
If so, in browsing these forums I've heard tell of a man who, should you cross his palm with silver will modify the BT module to enable music streaming. I can find his name on the forum but not how to get in touch with him. Does anyone know if he still modifies the units and how to get hold of him?
Thats all for now, but helloooo and thanks for any help

Aftermarket BT units
Re: Aftermarket BT units
ok, sorry if the previous post wasn't clear but Ive worked it out. I think the chaps name is Baris
There is a post on here saying to look for car phonics on ebay. I couldn't find him there but he seems to have his own website (of the same name).
Does anyone know if it the head unit he needs or the silver BT box out of the boot? Also anyone had this done - there are some v positive reviews / feedback on here from a while ago?
Also how does it work on the head unit screen? Does it show the track your playing and can you still use the steering wheel controls?
Sorry for all the questions!
cheers

Re: Aftermarket BT units
or just buy a blackberry gateway and be done with it.

Re: Aftermarket BT units
I read about the BB gateway and they sound like a good idea as the music and phone are on different BT channels. Where are you plugging it into? Not sure I have an aux in??
Re: Aftermarket BT units
I have an aux in in my centre console and in the rear where the DVD system is, so will be going in there. Ordered mine this morning funnily enough.

Re: Aftermarket BT units
ok, just been to look and it turns out I have an aux in on the back of the centre console (I'm new to this remember
Theres no aux in inside the arm rest but it turns out there is some gubbins under a plastic holder for a specific phone holder to clip in. But looking about it seems that while there is an iPhone clip in thing, even that won't allow music through the stereo
