Refurbed wheels are on, plus spacers, plus more

Post by JimmySpeed » Fri Mar 21, 2014 7:47 pm

So another week has almost passed since I got the E70 (2 weeks tomorrow), and the work has continued.

This week I removed the manifold and EGR for a good cleaning and to check my flaps. They were very much solid so no worries there. I have warranty so can't remove them anyway, and after doing it on my 320d and 535d, I vowed to not remove them again after noticing (and not liking) the different driving characteristics when they were de-flapped. The manifold was pretty clean, but the EGR was quite dirty.

I removed the peeling trim around my steering wheel buttons and painted them satin black - nothing fancy,  that paint just happens to be the best match to the factory plastic that I can get.

I had my 20" wheels refurbed in high gloss black and had 2 new Bridgestones (non RFT) fitted at the same time.

Lastly, this morning I picked up some 20mm TPI spacers for the rear and 12mm for the front (hubcentric of course with longer bolts) and had them fitted.

Add that to week 1's progress (BMW performance gloss black kidneys, black upper and lower bumper grilles, black roof and spoiler, aero rear splitter and remap) and I'm almost there! The aero front is next and hopefully one day soon before 2015 DVLA will complete my plate transfer  >:(

Anyway, here's the pics  :camera::

This next pic was pre-spacers just to illustrate the difference

Oh and here are the 19" loan wheels I was on for a few days

looking lovely!!!! looks finished now.  Looking at rear end and seeing so many new white bmw's jag xf's etc kn white with black sports accents, Im wondering what would the centre section of that rear aero kit would look like in gloss black?? I cant help thinking it would look sweeet!!! :)

Great minds must think alike as I had battled with the exact same idea before I decided to pull the trigger on all white.

I couldn't find any pics of it done like that bit I did find a black car with the centre rear aero done in silver. The contrast looked good.

I decided to go all white for now, and perhaps go black in the future.

Same possibilities apply to the front aero kit too

You don't fuck about do you lol.

I can't really see the spacers on my phone.
What do they look like? Silly question I know but do they make a big difference?

They do make a big visual difference - they just bring the wheels out more flush to the wheel arches. Its only 2cm and 1.2cm back/front which doesn't sound like much but when you see it in person the difference looks huge. Its amazing what the eye picks up.

When they first went on my initial reaction was "HOW THE HELL ARE SOME OF THE YANKS RUNNING 30MM ON THE REAR WITH THE SAME SETUP" because honestly you wouldn't want the back wheels poking out any more than they do now.

From the front of the rear arch, they are flush. Its only on the rear of the rear arch that there is any tucking in but for them to poke out any further would be too much IMO.

Fair enough, I will have a look on the laptop later to see how it looks on there.
Where did you get the spacers from?
