Telephone/BMW Assist Disappeared

Post by toejam23 » Thu Mar 20, 2014 9:59 am

Morning Guys,

A few weeks ago i noticed that my mobile wasn't connected to the car via bluetooth. so i went into the menu only to find that the telephone and BMW assist options had disappeared. very odd cos I've always had no issues to connect my mobile.
The only thing that i can think of possibly having affecting it is that I've been having some occasional issues with laboured starting so i stuck my CTEK Charger on over night a few weeks back.
Could the charger of affected the Module somehow???
I have checked all fuses but they are all ok
Any ideas?

Cheers

Nick

Unlikely.

Do you have a current 'Assist' subscription?

The simplest thing to try is the infamous 'Battery Reset' and see if that wakes everything up again.  Disconnect the battery completely for twenty minutes or so.

If you get a 4x4 warning light in reconnection then that is cleared by driving slowly forward and moving the steering lock to lock.

Cheers for the quick reply Richard.
No I don't have a subscription but the option was always there.
I am now going to try the battery reset. I take it i need to take both pos and neg points off?

Not vital to do so, but taking both off and touching them together will neutralise any stray charge left in the car.

It's a good idea to turn everything off before you disconnect it though....

Cheers.
Is there a certain order for disconnect and reconnecting the pos and neg cables?

On every car that is negative earth - All newer cars are.

Disconnect Earth first - Reconnect last

Check all the connections to the TCU in the boot - left side cubby bottom to make sure all the plugs are in.

After that it may be a TCU failure.

Anyone with nav coder will be able to code it back on.

So you reckon it might not be broken and just needs recoding?
Strange that it just disappeared like that tho.
Any way if checking if it's working or not myself?
I don't have nav coder only a BMW scanner 1.4 and that just says it doesn't find it when scanned.
