Insurance requires tracker?

Post by Woofer » Sat Jan 18, 2014 9:06 am

I take delivery March 1 of my 4.0d and my Zurich multi car policy is saying I need a Navtrak or similar, has anyone insured elsewhere without, also premium seems high at 850  ::)

Try another insurer, but it does depend on postcode.

All our BMWs had to have systems installed and working when new, but the requirement dropped off as they got older.

We went with one of the BMW offered options to save any warranty issues.

£850 seems a lot, but again it depends upon location/driver/value/mileage etc.

Admiral and direct line group companies don't require trackers. My quote from direct line is £500

Wasn't there one that actually increased the price if you had a tracker? Thought it was Admiral so I did not mention trackers (which I do have) ...

Esure cheapest for me, then Privilege then Direct line. None required a tracker based on a vehicle value of £50k. You may find £50k is a threshold for many insurers, above which they want a tracker for "certain postcodes" eg where I live!

Axa required a tracker although that is based on a value of £56k. As they werent competitive price wise it was a moot point.

When i got my last X5 (4 years ago) Direct line were insisting on a tracker but not now. When I looked at prices when i got the new X5 (less than 2 months ago) More Than were competitive and today they're miles out. Moral of the story: shop it around every time.....

I'm with NFU Mutual and my premium for a new x30d M-Sport works out at just over £360 a year.

Probably helps that I live in a rural area and have max no-claims. It's a shame that you have to be getting on a bit to enjoy these prices - there was a lad who works for me that was telling me that he has just passed his test and was quoted over £3k for a Vauxhall Corsa, and there were some companies that just turned him down altogether.

Yes, it's shocking. Almost as shocking as the claims experience that drives these figures. :-[
