All prepped for a run to Dortmund.
Re: All prepped for a run to Dortmund.
I'm here, in UK and oil is £100, posted on this forum. I'm passing Dortmund 6 times a year and never ever thought to spend £450...If You happy, that is fine, it's just my opinion. E53 is not a Ferrari to drive it to Dortmund for a oil change...

The engine oil required on a full oil change for my 4.8 is nearly £100 so can't see how I'd get the gearbox oil that cheap.
If you can that's great. But also changing the oil isn't just a matter if draining it and just refilling as with the engine. So again the labour side can't be that cheap either unless not done correctly.
Jason offered me that price of £450 and he's not exactly expensive. I even called a couple of other paces and again got the same sort of prices quoted.

I've done 10's of x5's, 5series etc. It's not rocket science...not for £450

Interesting for sure but firstly are you a registered company offering this service for so little? Or are you doing it out of the goodness of your heart (free of charge)?
As the first link provides a lower sump pan but doesn't state whether it's the metal or plastic type? Also doesn't seem to mention the gasket, electrical connector gasket, etc as mine was leaking for there.
Also, from all the sources I've spoken to they have all stated that you need 8 litres of oil for a full gearbox oil change as there is a litre held in the torque converter and that will not just drain out (and that is from ZF themselves who you would hope the exact entirety of the box).
They also changed my transfer box and rear diff oil in that price too.

1. Registered company
2. £270 for oil change all in (Raj's case)
3. It takes in fact 10l for dynamic change
4. Don't really want to answer to Reusch and bigsanj STUPID comments!!!
5. e53 it's an old car now, great but old. Driving Dormunt for an £650 oil change makes me laugh...

Each to their own boys, each to ther own.
Some are more passionate about cars than others. To some Of my mates a car is simply a means to get from A to B. some others worship cars like their gods! Lol.
Generally ppl here do like their cars more than the general public, hence the TLC.
So what brings you here kkx5, if not the love for your motor.. Your business?

Re: All prepped for a run to Dortmund.
kkx5 makes a valid point - I'm sure the job can be done in the UK and for less; many many people have had it done with no problems.
But Raj is a true enthusiast, and i'm sure it was as much an adventure doing the journey as it was about the oil change. I've done crazy journeys (not quite that far though!) for the sake of it, just for a way to pass the time.
I think its a case of whatever floats one's boat - some people like a drink and a cigarette for their money, others do not and their car is their baby where only the very best is good enough. I respect that even if I myself can be a cheapskate at times!
